GMCF Community Arts & Humanities Checklist
All those submitting a GMCF Community Arts Grant application should consider the following Pre-Submission Actions to prepare for a successful Community Arts Grant submission adequately.
Pre-Submission Actions:
- When planning the public art installation, determine any variables related to public safety and city and county codes that could impact the operating function of the proposed location, such as sight lines of moving vehicles, safety of pedestrians, and lighting.
- Determine how best to prepare the site to ensure a lasting public art installation; primer and paint specifications; protective finishes required to prevent vandalism or weather damage; landscaping, drainage, and grading required.
- Determine the ownership of land where art is placed, as well as the ownership and copyright of the artwork; life expectancy of the installation; the party responsible for maintenance and or removal of installation if necessary.
- Consider the factual and/or historical relevance of the art installation.
- Prepare an initial budget plan, including installation, anticipated future maintenance needs, and costs, as well as the party responsible for paying estimated costs as shown in the owner/artist agreement (see model agreement) or other binding documentation signed by both artist(s) and owner(s) specifying agreement between artist(s) and owner(s) regarding ownership and timely maintenance of the mural or artwork following completion. Or, if necessary, removal of the artwork.
- The following specifics should be determined and included in the owner/artist agreement and grant application:
- Ownership of the property on which the work of art is sited.
- Ownership of copyright on the work of art.
- Anticipated life expectancy and maintenance needs over the life of the work of art.
- Materials required for artwork and maintenance, including wall materials and finishes, preparation work, primer, and paint or foundation preparation of land, plinth, sculpture material, and maintenance or removal of artwork.
These Pre-Submission Actions should be fully considered and agreed upon by all participating parties before completing the online application form to the GMCF Community Arts and Humanities Committee for funding consideration.
Submission Requirements:
The GMCF Community Arts and Humanities Committee will use the information provided in the application to determine grantworthiness. The plan provided will represent that which must be adhered to for the length of the project and should be completed within one year of grant acceptance.
