Military Relations

Manhattan is home to Fort Riley and the Army’s Historic 1st Infantry Division. Engaging in a military component as part of GMCF allows for connecting with local non-profit organizations geared toward military initiatives and programs. We recognize that military-related individuals and families make up a significant portion of the Manhattan community. At GMCF, we work with you to determine your charitable passions and help make your philanthropy as effective as possible. We want to help connect you to the Manhattan community.

We know that the military family could live anywhere in the world; at GMCF, we work with soldiers, veterans, and their families to share ways to contribute to the community in which they live. Through the GMCF Military Program, we inspire and share knowledge of a community foundation by providing the resources to help make mindful decisions to strengthen and support the community they have come to call home. With the help of the Foundation, we can assist in ways that are instrumental in connecting the military to the community in which they live.

Mission

To improve the quality of life for service men and women, and their families, by connecting donors to needs in the military community and providing opportunities for the military to connect to their communities in which they live.

Christine’s Role

  • Builds relationships with the military community and communities within the greater Manhattan area.
  • Facilitate bridges between the military and charitable giving.
  • Supports active-duty military members, with resources they might have needed during their service.
  • Has a wide network within the Active Duty, veteran, and retired military communities.

Armed Forces Community Foundation

As an Affiliate of GMCF, AFCF partners with organizations contributing to ongoing efforts to address the needs of veterans and military families and assist in areas of programming, education, scholarships, and job training. This past year, the Armed Forces Community foundation increased the number of funds and gave out over 112 gifts to over 19 funds totaling over $21K on Match Day, which is held on Veterans Day of each year. These funds go to help soldiers, families, veterans, and those connected with the military community.

Ways to Support

Perhaps you served in the military or have a son or daughter, parent, or grandchild who has served. Or maybe you are passionate about supporting the individuals who sacrifice and serve daily to protect our country. No matter what your connection is to the military community, we can help you find a way to strengthen and support it.
