Projects & Initiatives
Current Projects:
Douglass Center Project
Artist: Tim Chapman
A series of sculptures will be installed along the Douglas Center Annex, paying tribute to the former World War II USO and former Douglass school.
4th Street Project - located at 4th & Pierre St
An interactive sculpture and pocket park are expected to be completed by September 3, 2023. This project was partially funded by the GMCF Community Arts grant fund.
Manhattan Housing Authority - Pottawatomie Court Art
Artist: Mindy's Murals
Adjacent to the playground site, a unique opportunity awaits as a storm shelter stands ready to become a mural of art. With the support of a Community Arts Grant, MHA intends to collaborate with local artist Mindy's Murals to transform the exterior of the storm shelter. Ideas include painting the shelter to resemble a covered wagon, sunflower fields, or scenes from early settlement days, with a focus on recounting the history of housing 'south of the tracks' during Manhattan's formative years, including the presence of the Exodusters near the Pottawatomie Court project site.
Zeandale Mural
The west wall of Zeandale’s local rural fire station is poised to become a captivating mural canvas. At the site where the old schoolhouse once stood, a Community Park is taking shape. This mural, prominently visible from Highway 18 as you pass through Zeandale, tells the story of the township's rich history, from its ancient Native American heritage to the arrival of white settlers in the mid-1800s.
