Lincoln and Dorothy Deihl Arts and Humanities Grants
The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation is dedicated to expanding public art and humanities within our community. Our goal is to support public art and humanities projects while providing opportunities for artists and humanists to gain visibility and for the public to engage in art. Public art has the power to shape community identity and foster a sense of place, which are crucial factors in determining where people choose to live. Art installations unite people, make art accessible to all, and inspire a sense of belonging within the community. Art installations unite people, make art accessible to all, and inspire a sense of belonging within the community. They become points of pride and interest for both residents and visitors, enhancing the beauty and atmosphere of the city.
Public art can be both functional and aesthetic—integrated into stormwater systems, bridge supports or created as murals and sculptures. By its very nature, public art sparks conversation and deepens the connection to place.
The humanities encompass a wide range of subjects that explore what it means to be human, foster connections among individuals, and generate insights that cultivate a thriving community. These experiences include but are not limited to, interpretive exhibitions, community conversations, town halls, panel discussions, presentations, book discussions, and films. Each experience or event should be accompanied by facilitated learning, offering the audience both knowledge and something thought-provoking to consider.
We invite you to explore our current and past projects and initiatives. Additionally, we encourage you to apply for grant funding to support public art or humanities projects that will positively impact the Greater Manhattan area.
